What is ENGAGE?

 

ENGAGE was created in 2002 by International Business Leaders Forum and Business in the Community (BITC) and is now supported by BITCís International Leadership Team. ENGAGE Key Cities is an international network of employee community engagement projects. Businesses and community partners collaborate to positively impact a specific city. There are currently 35 cities internationally. ENGAGE Hong Kong is designated to be carried out by Community Business.

ENGAGE Hong Kong ("ENGAGE")

 

 

 

 

ENGAGE is a 6-months English mentorship program held in Hong Kong every year from March to September. It was introduced in 2008 by Community Business to bring together community partners and the private sector to work in collaboration to play an active role in alleviating poverty in Hong Kong.

  • What do you know about Sustainable Development Goals? Quality education should be for everyone! It does not stop at primary, secondary or tertiary level, but also about promoting lifelong learning and training opportunities. Consider working with Community Business at ENGAGE!
     

  • How can business sector contribute in alleviating poverty in Hong Kong?

ENGAGE is designed to help alleviate poverty by empowering secondary school students from disadvantaged backgrounds to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and achieve upward social mobility, including planning for higher education

 

 

Proven 9-year Track Record

 

Since 2008, ENGAGE Hong Kong has supported 530 student mentees, engaged 488 volunteer mentors and provided 279 job shadowing opportunities!

 
Impact on Mentees in 2016:
  • 100% believed that they were provided with positive role models
  • 97% felt that there is a positive impact to their life
  • 97% felt that ENGAGE will help them to build a brighter and more successful future
  • 92% will keep in touch with their mentors after the program
Impact on Mentors in 2016:
  • 100% would recommend their friends/colleagues to join ENGAGE as a mentor, and would recommend their company to continue supporting ENGAGE
  • 71% had improved their mentoring skills
  • 65% had enhanced their awareness in social issues in Hong Kong
