DIRECTOR, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - Networks and Programmes

With the growth of our wider work in diversity, equity, and inclusion across Asia we are seeking a Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to lead our major networks and programmes across the Asia region. If you are passionate about DE&I and want to influence strategic conversations across the Asia region, we encourage you to apply for this exciting and fast-paced role. We lead and facilitate a number of corporate networks, providing a forum for member companies to network, learn, exchange ideas, address challenges and share best practices on key aspects of responsible and inclusive business. 

This is an executive level role, that requires a dynamic, mature individual with significant leadership experience and vision, solid and proven private sector experience, a passion for the subject of DE&I and an understanding of and commitment to the Asia region. It is a full-time position based in Hong Kong, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.  The appointed individual will be part of Community Business’ Executive Team which is responsible for the strategic direction and sustainability of the overall organisation.

Key Responsibilities  

As a key member of the Executive Team, the Director of DE&I Networks and Programmes will be responsible for: 

  • Contributing to the overall strategic direction and sustainability of Community Business as a not-for-profit organisation – including our people strategy and workplace culture. 

  • Defining and leading the strategy for our key networks and programmes, ensuring we continue to differentiate our position as a thought leader and trusted partner on DE&I in Asia. 

  • Developing and managing a robust financial plan to ensure our networks and programmes make a strong and sustainable contribution to the organisation.  In particular, focusing on the continued growth in membership and profitability of our leading networks, DIAN and DIAN India. 

  • Providing direction and being accountable for the design and execution of a full integrated plan of activities, including: networks, research, events, programmes, campaigns, training and consulting.  Key initiatives currently include: 

  • Networks: DIAN, DIAN India, DIAN Global Link, DIAN Circles 

  • Research: Race and Culture, Women on Boards Hong Kong, Neurodiversity 

  • Events: CB Awards 

  • Programmes: Employee Wellbeing and LGBT+, This is Me 

  • Campaigns: Creating Inclusive Workplaces for LGBT+ Employees, Promoting Diversity on Boards 

  • Consulting & Training: A portfolio of offerings 

  • Based on market insights and best practice DE&I practices, collaboration with the Executive Team, set the agenda for the Community Business Research Programme, keeping CB ahead of the curve on DE&I.  

  • Identifying new project opportunities and bringing them to life – from initial project concept, through to proposal development, funding and resource identification and final development and execution of project plans. 

  • Engaging and building positive relationships with a wider range of stakeholders externally, including: members, prospects, partners, consultants, NGOs, Government, etc – across the Asia region and globally. 

  • Being a subject matter expert on DE&I and representing Community Business externally including at events, in research, to the media, etc. 

  • Leading, managing and motivating a team of 8-10, providing direction, coaching and performance management and ensuring team members are happy, healthy, and engaged. 

 

Competencies 

Candidates should possess the following qualifications and attributes:- 

  • Degree holder or equivalent 

  • Passion for the subject of DE&I, with at least 8 years of experience in a diversity related field/role – ideally in the corporate sector 

  • Strategic thinking, applying a business focus to our vision of impacting positive change 

  • Collaboration and the ability to succeed in a matrix organisation 

  • Coaching and mentoring individuals and teams, direct as well as indirect  

  • The ability to create a compelling vision for existing members and also drive new business development 

  • Sharp business acumen with the ability to see new opportunities, identify solutions, partner proactively and nurture mutually beneficial relationships 

  • Broad senior management experience with proven track record in financial, project and people management 

  • Responsible and inclusive leadership style with the ability to inspire, motivate and manage a diverse team 

  • Credibility as a business and subject matter expert and ability to network, connect and influence at senior levels 

  • Results-oriented, resilient, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently under time pressure, but also thrive in a dynamic team and work environment 

  • Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills – oral, written and presentation – with the ability to communicate and influence at all levels both internally and externally.  Chinese language skills are not required but would be an advantage.   

  • High degree of proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 

 

Salary 

Salary will be commensurate with the relevant experience of the successful candidate.
