Through the tireless work of people like Michael Kaufman, gender equity has become more than just a women's issue. In this interview, we talk to Michael about what inspired him to start the White Ribbon Campaign, and its impact and evolution in the past three decades. We also discuss current gender equity movements, such as #MeToo, and what companies and individuals, men in particular, can do next to address this. Michael Kaufman is a co-founder of White Ribbon Campaign, the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against women. He is a public speaker, writer and consultant whose innovative approaches to engage men and boys in promoting gender equity and transforming men's lives over the last three decades.

Michael Kaufman, PhD, is a public speaker, writer and consultant whose innovative approaches to engage men and boys in promoting gender equality and transforming men's lives has taken him around the world over the past four decades. Michael has worked extensively with the United Nations and with government, non-governmental organisations, corporations, trade unions and universities. He is the co-founder of the White Ribbon Campaign, the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against. He is a senior fellow at Institute Promundo (Washington D.C and Rio de Janiero) and co-writer of the State of the Worlds' Fathers Report. He is the sole male member of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council created by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and co-chaired by Melinda Gates and Ambassador Isabel Hudon. His work in the UN system, including UN WOMEN, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, IFAD and UNESCO, has taken him to New York, Rome, Paris, Beijing, Katmandu, Ankara, Geneva, Nairobi, Jakarta and Delhi. He has worked with numerous NGOs, including OXFAM, International Red Cross, Save the Children and Amnesty International, as well as with governments on six continents. He wrote the training programme on sexual harassment used by tens of thousands of staff at the United Nations.
