Community Investment Forum
4 : Environmental Sustainability
4 - 7pm | Central, Hong Kong

(Our heartfelt thanks to KPMG for hosting)

In a consumption-based society like Hong Kong, we produce 1,700 tonnes of plastic waste every day, which has been rapidly accumulating in our landfills, waterways, and oceans. To take a closer look at this pressing global issue which threatens wildlife and human health, we will be screening a 22-min version of the documentary “A Plastic Ocean” which aims to educate, inspire and ultimately protect the environment. The screening will be followed by a discussion on the catastrophic implications for the environment as well as the critical role each and every one of us has to play in reducing plastic wastage and raising awareness.

With advancements in technology, new business goals and changing employee demographics and expectations, companies need to rethink how to design workplaces. To optimise collaboration, creativity, and productivity, one major trend in the modern workplace design is agile working.

Join this forum to learn from enlightened organisations as to what agile working really means, why we need to rethink how to manage, design and utilise the workplace which benefits both employers and employees.

Every five seconds, another person enters slavery somewhere in the world. It is estimated that there are over 45 million people in slavery today – more than any other time in history.  Over the past three years, this issue has become a dominant topic within the private sector. To make sense of this emerging business risk, we have invited Matt Friedman of the Mekong Club to provide a comprehensive update on human slavery and its implications to business. The talk will explore the changing human trafficking paradigm; the relationship between human trafficking and slavery; global trends and patterns; the impact on the private sector; the changing obligations within a range of business circles, and what can be done to address them.

Responsible Business Network Meeting 2 – Global Trends in CSR and Sustainability
Hong Kong

When it comes to CSR in Asia, Hong Kong companies are getting left behind. Lenovo was the only locally listed company to appear in the top 20 of the Channel NewsAsia Sustainability Ranking in 2016, while India, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan all had at least 3 companies. When compared with the top 50 companies in the U.K. or other European countries, the top 50 companies in Hong Kong have indeed a lot less activity for that matter. It is necessary for the business community in Hong Kong to undergo a long journey in sustaining their effort to promote CSR and achieving business sustainability.

Lights Out: Redefining Your Senses

Hong Kong

Since birth, we learn about the world and people around us through engaging our senses – taste, smell, sight, sound, and touch. We enrich our lives and gain pleasure through smelling and tasting delicious food, listening to classical music or pop songs, or watching movies and dramas. Many of us claim to know Hong Kong like the back of our hands, but have you imagined how your life would be without one of your core senses – sight?

Community Business is delighted to present an one-of-a-kind session with trainers from the NGO Hong Kong Blind Union to guide you by experiencing what it's like to be visually impaired. This experiential session will challenge you to redefine and discover new ways to utilise your other senses and to complete everyday tasks as if you were visually impaired. Through reflection, you will gain a better understanding of the strengths, challenges, opportunities and needs of persons with disabilities, and share insights on how we can work together to make a difference.

Exploring Diversity: Capturing the Power of Introverts, with NYTs best-selling author Susan Cain

Our DIAN research, Examining Diversity & Inclusion From an Asian Perspective, highlights that a key diversity dynamic in Asia are differences in communication with a distinct focus on the introverts/extroverts dynamic.  We are pleased to be joined by a special guest speaker, New York Times bestselling author, Susan Cain, author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. In this session, Susan will shed light on introversion in the workplace and the implications that this has in a multicultural setting.  Presentation and Q&A with Susan will be followed by a facilitated virtual discussion among DIAN members on the broader implications of introversion in an Asian context and the steps companies can take to address bias in the workplace.

15 - 17 February   EVENT
24th World HRD Congress
Diversity and Inclusion
Mumbai, India

In recent years, the term diversity has grown in use. The term regularly appears in popular media, professional magazines, trade books and scholarly literature. To some it means tolerance, acceptance or perhaps an attitude. To others, diversity may mean inclusion, numbers or racial and gender differences. Still others see diversity as a code word for affirmative action or laws designed to ensure representation of minority groups. Unlike affirmative action, diversity is not a legal concept nor does it include only some people. Because we are all different, diversity includes everyone.

Take a look at the leaflet of the Congress for more information.
